A digital twin is a digital representation of real-world entities or processes – such as the ocean and its processes. These digital twins use real-time and historical data, allowing it to to represent the past, present and possible future scenarios. Though this is abstract, it may help to think of it as a potential dashboard for decision support, where policy makers may ask:

What happens to our fish stocks in my region if the temperature in the ocean rises? How will it affect the quotas of fish stocks for X fish species and Y fishing group?

How will storm surges affect the placement of offshore wind together with aquaculture operations? Could it affect the safety of operations?
